Gas furnaces generate heat by converting either oil or gas into heat. Generally in the South, we don’t heat using oil but gas furnaces can be very efficient, especially the line from Trane. These furnaces convert at least 80% of gas/oil into heat which is very efficient, with some converting 97%.

Furnace heating ability and efficiency is measured with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) percentage. A higher AFUE percentage indicates a more efficient furnace several Trane Furnaces are more than 90% AFUE efficient, among the best in the industry.

A furnace consists of :

• Heat exchanger – heat generated is transferred to the ductwork
• Burner – where the gas/oil is burned to generate heat
• Ductwork – pipe used to transfer heated air throughout the home
• Vent pipe – exhaust from  burning sent outside
